Your Hello Clever account settings let you control who has access to your merchant portal, how that access is secured, and how your profile and API credentials are maintained. This page covers the Owner and Member roles, how to invite team members, and how to set up two-factor authentication (2FA) to protect your account.
Some account settings are fixed at onboarding. In particular, your Clever Connect balance model (Aggregated or Dedicated) is chosen once during onboarding and cannot be changed after your account is activated. Confirm the right model before activation — see managing balances and accounts.

Roles and permissions

When you create a Hello Clever account, you are assigned the Owner role automatically.
Ownership transfer is not self-service. If you need to transfer the Owner role to another team member, contact Hello Clever Support.

Inviting users

1

Go to the Users page

Open your profile menu and select Users under the Account section.
2

Click + Invite

Click the + Invite button.
3

Fill in their details

Enter the new member’s Name and Email Address, and select their role.
4

Send the invitation

Click Invite User to send. The invitee receives an email with a link to join your account. Their status shows as Invited until they accept.

Setting up two-factor authentication (2FA)

Two-factor authentication requires a second verification step — beyond your password — each time you log in from an unfamiliar device. Hello Clever strongly recommends enabling 2FA on every account.

Setup steps

1

Open Account and Security

Click your profile icon in the upper-right corner of the portal, then select Account & Security from the dropdown.
2

Start 2FA setup

Locate the Two-factor authentication section and click Set up.
3

Choose your method

Select one of the two available options and click Next:
4

Confirm activation

Once you enter the correct code, 2FA is active on your account. From this point, every login from a new device will require a 2FA code.
Set up 2FA immediately after creating your account. It significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized access, even if your password is exposed.

Managing your 2FA settings

Return to Account & Security at any time to:
  • Switch between Google Authenticator and SMS.
  • Update the phone number used for SMS codes.

Troubleshooting 2FA

If you run into issues during setup or get locked out, contact Hello Clever Support. The support team can assist with 2FA recovery.

Profile and account settings

Access the following options from the profile icon menu in the upper-right corner:

API keys

API keys are accessible to Owner accounts only. Members cannot view or manage API keys. Clever Connect integrations use two credentials:
  • app-id — your store’s App ID, found in the admin portal under Merchants → Merchant Stores. Copy the App ID for the store you are working with.
  • secret-key — found in the merchant dashboard under Authentication → Auth 2.0. Use the Primary secret key and copy it with the copy icon.
Treat API keys as sensitive credentials. Keep your secret-key secret — never commit it to shared documents or code. If you suspect a key has been compromised, regenerate it from the Authentication section and notify your development team.
